In response to the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti this week, a number of charitable organizations are pulling together resources to bring relief to the area as quickly as possible. Atlanta based World Water Relief (www.worldwaterrelief.org), is working to determine the need for clean water specifically for hospitals, triage centers and broad community access around the country.

Clean water is critical to saving lives at this very fragile point in the disaster. The infrastructure of Haiti has been virtually destroyed by the powerful quake, and those who had so little in the way of resources, now have nothing. “Our hearts and prayers are with the people of Haiti in this terrible time of tragedy. We at World Water Relief have a deep connection with the people of Haiti after spending time over the last 3 months installing water purification units to aid in their access to clean water,” says Ben Seidl, Program Manager with World Water Relief. “We are devoting our full and immediate resources to helping our friends during this urgent crisis,” says Seidl.   In response to the needs, FedEx has generously offered to ship the water purification equipment to Haiti as part of their charitable mission.

World Water Relief will be leaving for Haiti to assess the critical needs of the disaster in the next 48 hours. They will establish a staging site to accept and make arrangements to distribute the most appropriate self sustaining water filtration units ranging from portable units for more immediate needs to stabilize the most critical of situations and larger units for longer term needs.  In an interview with CNN, Dr. Peter Hotez, head of the Department of Microbiology at George Washington University stated “What you have is a breakdown. It is already a fragile infrastructure with high rates of infectious and neglected tropical disease. Now there are potential breakdowns in sanitation, clean water, housing and subsequent crowding. That’s a terrible mix.”

Many churches, charitable organizations and individuals are asking how they can assist with this effort. World Water Relief urgently needs donations to help provide clean drinking water to the victims of this disaster. 100% of all donations will be directed into the Haiti Earthquake Clean Water Fund. If you would like to give, please visit www.WorldWaterRelief.org to donate.

World Water Relief is a 501C non-profit organization that is committed to providing clean water to people around the world during times of disaster and for daily sustainable access.  For more information, please email to Ben.Seidl@WorldWaterRelief.org or Donna.Peoples@WorldWaterRelief.org.
