“Do The 2!” with thousands of Atlantans on Oct. 3-4, 2009, at the 7th annual Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer.  This year’s 30-mile walk returns to beautiful downtown Atlanta with many exciting highlights. Opening Ceremonies will begin Saturday at 7 a.m. at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis.  Closing Ceremonies will take place Sunday at Zoo Atlanta.  “Operation Wipe Out Breast Cancer” is the theme and goal behind this year’s 2-Day Walk. The weekend will honor survivors, as well as the memories of those who have been lost to breast cancer.

Saturday’s highlights include a special lunch stop at Agnes Scott College and a special Saturday night dinner party to celebrate the walkers and crew who continue to support the fight against breast cancer.  The Atlanta 2-Day Walk’s goal is to give back at least 70 percent of all money raised from the event to Atlanta-based breast cancer support, research, financial assistance and awareness programs.

Sunday’s closing ceremonies at Zoo Atlanta include a family friendly festival; Q100 will broadcast live from the event and Radio Disney will be on hand with family-oriented activities.

The weekend’s Walk route will pass through some of Atlanta’s most beautiful neighborhoods and landmarks, including Freedom Path, Candler Park, Lake Claire, Downtown Decatur, Agnes Scott College, Fernbank Science Center, Emory University, Virginia Highland, MLK Jr. Center, Ebenezer Baptist Church, Inman Park, Little Five Points, Krog Street, Cabbagetown, Oakland Cemetery, Grant Park, and Zoo Atlanta.

Cheer stations and “B’Rest” stops will be along the entire route, to not only pamper the walkers, but also to encourage and entertain them. Each “B’Rest” stop will have a different military theme and one is rumored to be a giant army tent based on the classic TV series, M*A*S*H.

Even though times are tough, the Walk has had more registrants commit to walking both days, which requires higher fundraising goals.  Randi Passoff, founder and executive director, said, “In 2009, we’re seeing an increase in walker fundraising goals and we couldn’t be more grateful for this unexpected generosity from the Atlanta community.  Atlantans are still doing their part to make it happen, even with tighter budgets these days.  I can’t thank this city enough for its continued love and support of the Atlanta 2-Day Walk.”
